Jeffreys Bay is set to come alive with the vibrant energy of young athletes as it hosts the highly-anticipated Aloe Cup Rugby and Netball tournament from June 13 to 15.
This annual sporting festival will be held at Jeffreys Bay Primary School, bringing together some of the most promising young talents from across South Africa. The Aloe Cup, inaugurated in 2016, has quickly become a cornerstone event on the youth sports calendar, drawing teams and supporters from far and wide. This year the tournament will feature twelve u/11 rugby teams, promising intense and thrilling matches as they vie for the prestigious title.
Competition is expected to be fierce, with past winners including the renowned Grey College who have clinched the title four times, alongside Gene Louw, and Durbanville.
In addition to the rugby excitement, the tournament will also showcase the skills of 20 netball teams competing in under-12 and under-13 divisions. The netball tournament has its own storied history, with previous champions such as Jeffreys Bay, Handhaaf, and Knysna demonstrating the high level of competition and sportsmanship that the Aloe Cup inspires.
“We are excited to welcome teams from all over South Africa to our beautiful town,” said the event organisers. “The Aloe Cup is not just about the competition, it’s also about fostering a sense of community and celebrating the spirit of youth sports. We would like to invite the whole community to come and enjoy this fantastic festival.”
The event promises to be a wonderful experience for both participants and spectators, with a festive atmosphere that includes food stalls, entertainment, and activities for families. It’s an excellent opportunity for the community to come together, support the young athletes, and enjoy a weekend of thrilling sportsmanship.
