In 2023, when Ace Models established itself in Jeffreys Bay, it sparked interest with many aspiring models, including Alicia Spangenberg, who at the time was a matric student at Nico Malan High School in Humansdorp.

“Ace Models JBay caught my attention in February 2023,” Spangenberg recalled. “By April, I had enrolled with them. The girls were welcoming and friendly, and I knew it was going to be a safe space – a place without judgment or envy, just a group of girls trying to improve themselves.”

The journey wasn’t always easy, and she realised the importance of stepping out of her comfort zone.

A lot of people think modelling is easy, just look pretty and know your angles, but you need to be strong-minded, ambitious, and patient. Rejection is part of the process, and you often hear that you’re not good enough in various ways. You need to know your self-worth.

Spangenberg’s hard work and perseverance paid off when she was scouted and signed by Boss Models, a South African international agency.

The director of Ace Models Jeffreys Bay, Charné Scorgie, played an important role in Alicia’s development and now success.

“Charné’s mindset is something everyone admires,” Spangenberg noted. “She taught us to be confident, give our all, and be the best models we can be. She put a lot of effort into me, and I am where I am because of her.”

Despite her newfound success, she remains grounded and grateful, recognising the support and love from those around her. Spangenberg’s journey is also deeply rooted in her faith. She believes that God’s plan for her is greater than anything she could have envisioned for herself.

Her story is one of growth and gratitude, and she hopes to inspire others to pursue their dreams with the same passion and determination.
