‘Fully committed to his calling’, former Kouga councillor, Freddy Campher, has passed away

The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of former Kouga Municipality councillor, Freddy Campher who passed away on July 19.

In a statement released by the DA, it said that Campher was a teacher by occupation and in 2011 was elected as the ward councillor for Ward 4 in the Kouga Municipality – a position which he served until 2021.

“He was fully committed to this calling and in 2012 was named as the best DA ward councillor in the Eastern Cape,” the statement said.

In 2018 he was appointed as Member of the Mayoral Committee for Infrastructure and Engineering during the mayoralty of the late Elza van Lingen.

The statement further said that Campher was a DA stalwart and will be remembered for his hard work, passion and commitment to the people of the Kouga region.

“He was dedicated and caring and was focused on developing the communities that he served,” the statement said.

“We send our heartfelt condolences to his wife, children, family and friends and wish them strength in this difficult time.”

A memorial service will be held in Campher’s honour at 11:00 on July 27 at the Dutch Reformed Church Humansdorp East.
