Local talent shines bright as Siyabonga George, a gifted rapper from Humansdorp, recently secured the prestigious Best Hip Hop Artist 2024 award at the Mzansi Arts and Media Award (MAMA) for the second consecutive year, solidifying his position as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

As previously reported, George, who is better known as Exxo daSniper, was born in KwaMaqoma (formerly Fort Beaufort) and moved to Humansdorp in 1998.

He initially began his career as a rapper in 2001, when he formed a music group with his friends.

Following a series of ups and downs, George’s music journey took a pivotal turn as his original group disbanded, only to reunite with select members in 2008 to form Dogg Squad, releasing four albums and numerous mixtapes.

Beyond his work with Dogg Squad, he has also enjoyed a successful collaborative career, featuring on numerous albums and mixtapes with various artists.

His most recent solo endeavour, the single Kwaze Kwamnandi, dropped in May 2023, boasting an all-star lineup with Zakwe, Merel and Procasette, and expertly produced by Gqeberha’s Stidow.

In addition to music, George’s entrepreneurial drive resulted in the creation of Kasi Sniper, a clothing brand launched in 2015 that is in high demand.

While continuing to work hard on his clothing brand and cementing his music in the South African entertainment industry, last year he was elated when he won the Best Hip Hop Artist 2023.

To his surprise, this year he won the award for the second time, an achievement he is extremely proud of.

“I was nominated for the award earlier this year, but because there were so many nominees for the Best Hip Hop Artist 2024 category it was tough.

“Fortunately, with hard work and dedication, I was able to win the award again this year,” said George.

“I am over the moon, and winning this award for the second year in a row has boosted my confidence.”

George thanked his loyal supporters for believing in him and voting for him throughout his journey.

“I am bringing these awards home to Kouga,” said George.

He is currently pouring his energy into his eagerly awaited album, set to drop in 2025, featuring an impressive line-up of established artists, including Zakwe, MusiholiQ, Flash IKumkani, Siya Shezi, and Ab Crazy.

With the project still in progress, George welcomes potential collaborations with additional artists and seeks support from the Kouga Municipality and local businesses to bring his vision to life.

“My aim is to bring these well-known artists to my community. I also want to help other artists fulfil their dreams and, in turn, change our community’s standards of living,” said George.

Crime and unemployment are the reasons our youth end up using drugs and alcohol. I am praying that God will help me be successful so that l can help others as well.
