JEFFREYS BAY – Jeffreys Bay author, Teboho “Keemo Banks” Sokopo, has released his new crime thriller ebook, The Emperor: Rise of an Empire.

The cinematic crime novel follows the story of Vic Martinez and his transformation from street life into a figure driven by power, truth, and legacy.
According to Sokopo, the story explores themes of identity, survival, betrayal, institutional corruption and generational secrets.
Set across urban landscapes in America, South Africa, and Colombia, the novel centres on Vic’s battle against systems of control while navigating loyalty, vengeance, and ambition.
Sokopo, who has a background in music, branding and creative direction, described the writing process as deeply personal.
“Writing Vic’s story was a journey into exploring themes I’ve observed and felt deeply, such as loss, resilience, the weight of legacy,” said Sokopo.
“Vic’s path isn’t mine, but his heartbeat feels familiar,” said Sokopo.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the book, Sokopo said writing music and writing novels share similarities.
“Writing music and novels both paint a picture for listeners and readers. Sometimes the things we write about are real; some are relatable,” said Sokopo.
“I have always been a creative being. Trying something I’ve always wanted to do, but didn’t know how to, is an honour.”
Sokopo also credited writers and producers, Tyler Perry, Carl Weber, Christian Keyes and Courtney Kemp, as inspirations for his writing journey.
He sa id one of the biggest challenges while writing the novel was balancing action with emotional depth.
“Crime thrillers thrive on tension and action, but Vic’s psychological journey, which includes navigating grief, morality and power, had to feel authentic without slowing the pace,” said Sokopo.
The book was published through Foreign Pack Publishing House, which he said aligned with his vision of ownership and creative control.
“Since Foreign Pack is managing my career, I thought it was easy for me to keep everything where my career is being managed. Foreign Pack is about ownership, and I love owning my work. I thought it was best for me to sign a publishing deal with them as well.”
The ebook is currently available digitally for R160 per copy on Lulu.com and foreignpack.gumroad.com; while a hard copy and audio version are expected to launch later this year. No official release date has been confirmed.
While expanding into writing, Sokopo said he remains involved in music and business ventures.
“I still do music, but for now I’m focusing on the business side, helping build the Foreign Pack Group brand and helping emerging artists by managing talent and distributing music digitally.”
Looking ahead, Sokopo said he hopes to move into scriptwriting for television and film productions in future.
“I’m working tirelessly on perfecting my writing skills so they can meet higher-level standards.”
