JEFFREYS BAY – The Kouga Municipality has praised its lifeguards following the conclusion of the 2025/2026 seasonal duty period, highlighting a significant safety milestone at local beaches.
All seasonal lifeguard duties officially came to an end on 30 April 2026.
According to the municipality, during the season, no drownings were recorded while lifeguards were on duty, an achievement it described as a testament to the vigilance, professionalism, and dedication of its teams.
The municipality further extended its gratitude to all lifeguards for their commitment to ensuring the safety of both residents and visitors throughout the season.
Lifesaving services are set to resume later in the year, with official duties returning from 1 November 2026 at Jeffreys Bay Main Beach, and from 1 December 2026 at other designated swimming beaches.
National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson Craig Lambinon confirmed that there were no drownings recorded in the Kouga Municipality for the 2025/2026 season.
