KOUGA – In a landmark move, Kouga Local Municipality has, for the first time in its history, formally appointed the Red Ants as an accredited service provider to support the ongoing prevention of land invasion and the illegal occupation of municipal- and state-owned land through a competitive tender process.

The Red Ants, a specialist security organisation recognised for their comprehensive protection and asset-safeguarding services, will bolster the municipality’s existing security and law-enforcement capacity.
This appointment forms part of Kouga’s proactive strategy to safeguard communities, protect public land, and respond swiftly and lawfully to attempts at illegal occupation.
The addition of the Red Ants strengthens the municipality’s multi-disciplinary approach to safety, reinforcing its commitment to combating illegal land invasion, preserving public assets, and upholding the rule of law.
This historic appointment demonstrates the seriousness with which the municipality addresses the fight against illegal land occupation, prioritising crime prevention, public safety, and the protection of residents through ongoing investment in strategies and partnerships that ensure peace of mind for all communities in Kouga.
Among the services they will render are assisting the municipality with court-ordered evictions, removing illegal structures or unlawful occupants, and helping prevent illegal electricity connections, vandalism, and land invasions.
The municipality emphasises that the safety and security of residents remain central to its mandate, and strengthening operational capabilities is a critical part of creating safer, well-managed communities across the region.
