Local kickboxers earn presidential colours at World Championships

KOUGA – The South African team of 95 kickboxers returned with fourth place out of 18 countries from Sheffield, England, where they participated in the World Kickboxing Championships from 17 to 19 October.

Five local students from the Raptors MMA in the Kouga region earned their presidential colours for participating internationally. Shihan Gerhard Coetzee was elected as the national coach of the SA team, consisting of 95 fighters in total. The SA team fought under KOSA (Kickboxing Organisation South Africa) combat league. There were about 1,400 fighters that represented 18 countries.

Shihan Gerhard Coetzee was part of the tour management group and received the following certificates:

• International referee

• International official

• Appreciation award

Danika Liebenberg and Kayla Marais also completed an international grading for their senior black belts under Dave Sawyer, President of WKA International. The next African continental championship will be held in March 2026 in Cape Town.
