KOUGA – Kouga Local Municipality has awarded a contract worth nearly R11.3 million to Ve-Reticulation (Pty) Ltd for the installation of high mast floodlights across the region during the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 financial years.

Material deliveries are scheduled for this week, with construction set to begin at the end of October 2025.

This project represents another milestone in Kouga’s ongoing commitment to enhancing community safety and service delivery, with completion anticipated by February 2026.

“The installation of these high mast floodlights is not just about lighting up our towns – it is about restoring safety, dignity, and hope to our communities,” said Kouga Executive Mayor, Hattingh Bornman.

“By investing in better infrastructure, we are ensuring that residents feel safer in their neighbourhoods and that public spaces remain accessible after dark.”

Planned installations for 2025/2026

The first phase of the project will include the following high mast installations:

• 3 in Kruisfontein, Humansdorp.

• 2 in KwaNomzamo, Humansdorp.

• 1 in Ocean View, Jeffreys Bay.

• 1 in Sea Vista, St Francis Bay.

• 1 in Umzamowethu, Oyster Bay.

• 1 in Weston, Hankey.

• 1 in Noorshoek, Patensie.

• 1 in Loerieheuwel.

“Infrastructure development remains at the heart of Kouga’s growth. By prioritising projects like these, we are not only enhancing safety but also laying the groundwork for socio-economic upliftment, as safer communities create opportunities for businesses, families and future generations,” said Bornman.

The second phase of the project, which will take place during the 2026/2027 financial year, will extend installations to additional areas still to be confirmed, ensuring that more communities benefit from improved lighting.
