A process has started to sell a portion of the Aberdeen Caravan Park to a company called Karoo Plan Pty. Ltd.
The property belongs to the Dr. Beyers Naude Local Municipality (DBNLM).
On behalf of Karoo Plan, Ettiene Terblanche filed the application to investigate the possibility of purchasing a portion of the property.
Terblanche, in his application, said they would like to use the subject property for the upliftment of the visual impression of Aberdeen, by trying to attract more investors and tourists by upgrading the caravan park to encourage more people to visit Aberdeen.
He stated that the upgrade would not only improve the visual impression of Aberdeen, but will also help with job creation which, in return, can see the local economy grow and generate more business opportunities.
The (DBNLM) manager of administration, Neliswe Oliphant, explained that the lease of properties and offers to purchase municipal properties are submitted to the corporate standing committee for consideration.
“It is a cross-cutting matter as it is interlinked with the assets of the managing and town planning sector,” she explained.
All processes involved on how to deal with applications on leases and offers to purchase, received from the public was also explained and tabled before council.
Without further discussions on the item, Councillor Joseph Wiehahn proposed, with Councillor Hendrik Booysen seconding, that the property is vacant and not required to provide the minimum level of service delivery.
All supply chain management procedures must be followed. The registration, bulk service and other costs must be paid by the applicant.
