Three suspects linked to the murder of the Chief Whip of Emalahleni Local Municipality, Xoliseka Lali, appeared before the Queenstown Magistrate’s Court today, 30 July.
As previously reported, Lali was gunned down on 21 July at about 18:00 at his rented apartment in South East Village, Westbourne, Komani.
Following intensive investigations by the Eastern Cape Provincial Serious Violent Crime Unit, critical information was pursued, which led investigators to Mthatha.
Finally, on 28 July, three suspects were apprehended and charged with murder.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, the accused Bavuyise Mdingi (37), Mvuzo Mafana (41), and Sonwabiso Siko (43) appeared before the Queenstown Magistrate’s Court on 30 July and have been remanded in custody until their next court appearance.
She said that the case was postponed to 6 August.
“The SAPS confirms that investigations into this matter remain active and appeals to the public to refrain from speculation. The judicial process will be respected, and updates will be provided as appropriate,” said Gantana.
