THE annual cricket match between Union High School’s Old Boys and the current first XI took place last Saturday on the school’s Murray Field.

Dave Stern, from the class of ‘98, served as the Old Boys’ captain, with Jaden Brotherton taking the reins for the first XI. The Old Boys won the toss and elected to bat first. They managed to score a total of 229, with the best batsmen being James Moore (40) and Luke McNaughton (32).

First XI’s best bowlers were Josh Calitz (3/43) and Jarrod Naude (2/26). The first XI then went into bat and were eventually bowled out for 141.

They were, unfortunately, unable to put together any meaningful partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals.

Their best batsmen were James Pringle (37), Jaden Brotherton (28) and Sisipho Arnols (21).

Old Boys’ best bowlers were Gary Savage (3/27), William Copeman (2/16) and Nathan Naude (2/6). Old Boys won by 88 runs. – REPORTER
