A multi-disciplinary operation which included Flying Squad members, a private security company and the Community Police Forum resulted in the confiscation of various bank cards and an undisclosed amount of money from two suspects who were arrested in Komani on March 15.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Namhla Mdleleni, it is alleged that on March 15, at about 09:30 the multi-disciplinary team followed information of a suspected vehicle alleged to be used in scamming innocent victims of their bank cards.
“The vehicle was spotted and upon searching it, approximately 15 different bank cards and an undisclosed amount of money was recovered,” said Mdleleni.
She said a preliminary investigation revealed that some bank cards were stolen during the month of February.
Mdleleni said the two suspects, aged 28 and 34 who are suspected to be from East London, were arrested and detained on charges of possession of suspected stolen bank cards and fraud.
She said they are expected to appear in the Komani Magistrate’s Court on March 17.
