Two suspected drug traffickers were nabbed with a consignment of mandrax tablets worth around R170 000 in Cookhouse on February 2.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, it is alleged that on February 2, at about 23:00, members from the Cookhouse SAPS Highway Patrol were busy with a vehicle checkpoint on the N10.
He stated that moments later, a white Opel Corsa bakkie with two occupants was pulled off the road.
Nkohli mentioned that during a routine search, the police recovered a consignment of mandrax tablets stashed inside a compartment of a side panel.
He added that the two men, aged 30 and 31, were arrested and are due to appear in court soon on charges of dealing in illicit drugs.
“The N10 in the Eastern Cape is becoming a nightmare route for drug traffickers, including abalone poachers, as the Cookhouse SAPS Highway Patrol team is causing a significant impact on syndicates involved in illicit drug dealing,” said Nkohli.
