LIZMA Schoeman, a well-known artist from Somerset East, opened her exhibition, Karoo Kaleidoscope, at Our Yard Artitude in Graaff-Reinet, this past weekend.

Lizma has been painting for the past 12 years, but she has been painting more or less full-time for the last five years.

“Oil (paint) is my favourite medium. I think I am addicted to the smell of the oil paint and the linseed oil. To me, it’s the smell of happiness,” said Lizma.

Her exhibition, Karoo Kaleidoscope, is based on a selection of Karoo photos, which she turned into paintings.

“I searched far and wide for suitable photographic material to capture a total of 26 works, which are typical of the Karoo, on canvas. My favourite works are the ones with people in them, as I love to portray the character.” Admission to the exhibition is free and paintings can be taken as soon as they are sold, but her full range will be visible on the website, www.lizma.co.za.

“I have also had numerous prints made of works, which are more affordable for those who would like to buy a souvenir of our precious Karoo,” said Lizma.

She is a native of Somerset East, where she matriculated at Gill College and is a qualified B.Com industrial psychologist with an honours degree in Business Management, at the University of Stellenbosch.
