IT’S officially autumn and in the Karoo streets are lined with leaves as trees go into their annual resting period.
The town of Graaff-Reinet, however, is all abuzz getting ready for this year’s Stoep Tasting Wine Weekend set to take place on Friday and Saturday, May 24 and 25.
More than 50 of the best estates and producers in South Africa will have in excess of 300 wines on offer, and one can stroll from stoep to stoep enjoying craft liquors and delectable street foods all over town.
Definitely not the weekend to embark on a new diet!
You could, however, make the most of the weekend by joining fellow runners for a parkrun on the Saturday morning.
Stoep Taste organiser, Rose Wright, says, “The Mountain Drive parkrun happens every Saturday morning.
“For the Stoep Taste weekend, however, there will be a special ‘wine theme’, so participants are encouraged to dress up as something winey and join the festivities of the weekend!”
To join the parkrun, it is best to register online in advance (see link below).
That way your unique barcode just gets scanned on the morning of the run.
Since a good run is bound to work up a healthy appetite, all runners are invited to enjoy breakfast and coffee at the Union Prep School (UPS) campus afterwards.
Since the official stoep tasting only commences at 12:00, why not visit the UPS Karoo Farmers’ Market on the corner of Plasket and Caledon streets? This is one of the school’s main fund-raising events every year and stalls will be open from 09:00 to 14:00.
Stalls can also be booked by contacting UPS secretary Anya Vorster unionpreschool@telkomsa.net.
