Two suspects have been arrested by the Hawks after an alleged
incident of kidnapping, theft of close to a 100 bank cards and over R20 000 in cash
at the home of a suspected loan shark in Cala on July 5.
According to Hawks provincial spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, the three suspects, all dressed in police uniform, are alleged to have
barged into the house of the alleged loan shark and stole 98 bank cards.
“Cash to the value of R22 000 was taken, a Ertiga vehicle and the alleged loan shark’s brothers were kidnapped. The vehicle and the two brothers were later found safe,” Mgolodela said.
Mgolodela added that one of the suspects was identified by the unnamed
victim.
“The 35-year-old suspect was arrested and that led to
the arrest of another suspect, aged 37. During the arrest of the duo a Toyota
Fortuner, a Toyota Corolla and a VW Polo were confiscated as they are reported
to have been used as instruments during the commission of a crime,” she
said.
The suspects will appear before the Cala Magistrate’s Court
soon.
In what could be seen as referring to the third suspect,
Mgolodela said more arrests were imminent.
The Hawks provincial head, Major General Obed Ngwenya,
commended the Serious Organised Crime Investigation team for the expeditious
response on the matter.
