Cacadu (formerly Lady Frere) police have arrested a 48-year-old man on charges of rape that allegedly took place on Friday, July 22.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, said the sexual abuse started two years ago.
“It is further alleged that on several occasions the suspect, who is from the same neighbourhood, would call the victim to his home and rape her. The suspect threatened to kill her if she told anyone,” he said.
On Friday, July 22, the 17-year-old teenager reported the abuse to an educator at her school, who alerted police.
The suspect was immediately traced and arrested at his homestead in Machubeni, Nkohli said.
He will appear in the Cacadu Magistrate’s Court on July 25 on a charge of rape.
