THE unique #TheUltimateKarooExperience two-day run kicked off last week Saturday, September 21, with purebred Arabian horses galloping past participants as an opening ceremony.

Day one offered a night run into the Karoo sunset, followed by a delicious dinner that spoke Karoo hospitality.

On day two, runners awoke to farm noises of chickens, turkeys and horses.

The race comprised two distances: 24km and 12km.

The routes consisted of sheep trails, mountaintops and spectacular Karoo scenery. Upon finishing the trail run, each participant received a locally made “windpomp” as finisher’s medals.

The Lormar Endurance Trail Run’s main goal is to create awareness of the spectacular Karoo and its people, and to provide participants with true “platteland” hospitality.

Participants, family and friends enjoyed the weekend in the Karoo with loads of activities like the spectacular opening ceremony, horse riding, swimming, live entertainment and a tractor sunset cruise.
