IT’S time for the ladies to dust off their pink clothing to get ready for the annual Pink Tea, arranged by Spandau ladies during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The event will be held on Thursday, October 24, at 15:00 in the Botanical Gardens Hall, and is open to all ladies from Graaff–Reinet and the surrounding areas.

Ethne Hufkie and Virginia Christoffels started the event in 2012 when they were both teaching at Spandau Secondary School, and for the first few years it was held at the school.

Even though they have now retired, it is still very much a Spandau event, with many of the staff still involved.

The theme this year is Hawaiian Pink, and guests are asked to enter into the spirit of the event and create an eye-catching garland to complement at least one item of pink clothing.

The guest speaker will be Marcia Kalebe, a social worker who has worked across South Africa, promoting quality of life programmes and projects to ensure the dignity of people suffering from a life-limiting illness.

A board member from the Graaff–Rei-net Cancer Association will also speak about the work of the association, which provides practical support to cancer sufferers and their families in Graaff–Reinet and surrounding towns.

There is no set entrance fee, but a donation of at least R50 is requested.

Thanks to the generosity of many local businesses in sponsoring the eats, all funds raised will be handed over to the Cancer Association.
