THE SAPS members from the Cradock Cluster confiscated abandoned drugs during several recent incidents.
This followed an incident on May 31 when Cradock Visible Police members were busy conducting vehicle patrols in the Cradock area, when the driver of a vehicle refused to stop.
The police gave chase, as the vehicle sped off on the N10, towards the Port Elizabeth national road.
The vehicle was eventually pulled over and searched but nothing was found inside.
As the SAPS members were travelling back to Cradock, they noticed a bag lying next to the road. The bag was searched which contained 1 080 Mandrax tablets, estimated to have a street value of R81 000.
On June 9, around 19:45, off-duty policemen, Sergeant Langa Msengana and Captain Zandisile Mjobo from Cradock Cluster Public Order Policing, noticed a white Toyota Avanza, which did not stop at an intersection in J.A. Calata Street.
The vehicle was followed to the Shell garage where the driver and one passenger got out and went into the busy Shell garage tuck shop.
After further investigation, 51,4kg of dagga was found in the vehicle. The street value is estimated at about R51 400.
A case of dealing in dagga, with alternative charges of reckless and negligent driving, is being investigated.
The Toyota Avanza has been impounded.
The Cluster Commander of Cradock, Brigadier Madoda Zamkana, commended the members on the successes achieved and said that members should always have enthusiasm to fight crime, even when away from duty.
