KOMANI Royals took on Pioneers Cricket Club in Breidbach in King William’s Town recently in a Border Cricket Promotional League game, but owing to heavy rains the game was called off and the two teams had to share the points.

The home team, Pioneers won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Jeandre Smit and Siphiwo Ndaba played well together and managed to handle Pioneers’ opening bowlers in bowler friendly conditions before Ndaba lost his wicket with the score on 60/1 after nine overs.

This was Komani Royals’ third Border Cricket Promotional League game of the season and the third to be called off.

The rain had left large patches of the ground wet and Komani Royals’ co-captain, Mkululi Takane, felt it was a wise decision to call off the game because the outfield was not fit to play on.

“Even though we would have loved to win the game, sharing points is not a bad thing for both sides.

“We accepted the outcome since we were playing away, but we need to start winning games especially our home games,” Takane said.

The Komani Royals will only play away games until December due to the water shortage in Komani.

Komani Royals’ next game will be against Mdantsane’s Gwaba Cricket Club on Sunday, November 17, at Bunkers Hill grounds in East London.

“We know Gwaba very well. We played them twice last season and won one game against them. We lost another due to the unavailability of our senior players,” Takane said.
