COLESBERG Endurance Club hosted an endurance ride at Karoo Gariep Conservancy near Hanover on March 22 and 23.

According to Judy Rous, one of the event organisers, the venue is every horse owner’s dream holiday – a scenic getaway in the Karoo with all your needs catered for and you can bring your horse along with you.

The weekend saw many present and past-Marlow students and parents enjoying camaraderie and competition together. The Steyls, the Ferreiras and the Engels were there, to name but a few, as well as well-known Hofmeyr endurance enthusiasts Robert, Charles and Karen Lord.

Riders from Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal made the long trip to compete.

It took place over 40km for first-timers and 80km for competitive riders.

The fastest time over the 80km was 3 hours and 29 minutes, at a speed of 22.9km/h by KZN young rider, Alexis Louwrens on her horse, Amra Maline.

Duan, Marchane and Gian Steyl fared well, dominating their respective categories. Nicolas Engels placed second in the senior category and won the prestigious Best Condition award.
