Bail denied for retired Pastor accused of attempting to kill his wife

A retired man of the cloth, Mongameli Mgijima (74) was denied bail by the Komani Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, March 22, for allegedly trying to kill his wife.

Mgijima is accused of working with three other unknown men when they allegedly tried to hang Nomthandazo Mgijima with a rope in the couple’s Mlungisi home in Komani.

Police said Nomthandazo was saved by neighbours on the day of the incident on March 6.

The former pastor made a brief court appearance on March 9, with his bail hearing starting on March 15.

Police spokesperson captain Namhla Mdleleni said, “The case has been postponed to April 25. The accused was denied bail.”
