The eight-team competition got underway this past weekend with teams playing a maximum of four fixtures a day as the league is running against time for the provincial play-offs next month.
Komani and Cacadu, formerly Lady Frere, have two teams each in the league while the other teams are from Tsomo, Cofimvaba, Ngcobo and Dordrecht.
“After ABSA pulled out as sponsors of the league national, it was difficult for SAFA to run the league from the 2010 FIFA World Cup legacy. As the region, we are happy that we finally managed to play the games even though we are running out of time for the provincial play-offs, but we are positive we will have a team that will represent us in the play-offs.
“The region has been hard at work in preparation for these matches and ensuring that the league kicks off,” said SAFA Chris Hani president, Sandile Eric Mata.
Mata also urged the community of Komani to come out and support women’s football.
“We urge fans in and around Komani to come out in their numbers in support of the women’s game. For the league to be a success, we need all stakeholders, which include media and fans to show their support and assist in taking the league forward,” concluded Mata.
The league fixtures will also continue this coming Saturday as SAFA Chris Hani is searching for a team that will represent the region in the play-offs next month.
