A PROJECT to support mothers and newborn babies, started at Bhisho Hospital, was expanded to include Cradock and Middelburg hospitals.

The MAM (Mama and Me) project was started by Tracey Pullen at Bhisho with the aim of helping relieve the burden new mothers face when they are not able to provide basic needs for their babies.

The idea is to provide them with their basic needs to get them through the first few days after being discharged from hospital.

A Bible verse is added to the gift pack.

After learning of MAM, Taskia Istain took the project to Wilhelm Stahl Hospital in Middelburg and later Brenda van Vuuren took it to the Provincial Hospital in Cradock.

With each handover of a package, there is a short conversation with the mother to show support and create a platform where the new mothers feel that they are important and are acknowledged.

These women come from different backgrounds and the aim is to create a world where someone is given hope and kindness is spread.

The above projects are fully sponsored by Pullen, Istain and Van Vuuren, with some help from other sponsors.

Each packet consists of a receiving blanket, wash cloth and soap for mom and baby, sanitary towels, Vaseline, diapers, a baby outfit, baby powder and lotion.
