Police in Cookhouse are investigating the drowning of an 11-year-old girl in the Bongweni Dam near Cookhouse
yesterday, January 17.
According to police spokesperson Captain Bradley Rawlinson,
it is alleged that yesterday at about 14:00 the girl went swimming
with friends in the Bhongweni Dam.
“While the children were swimming, the girl was seen
struggling to swim in the muddy section of the dam and subsequently drowned
before she could be reached,” said Rawlinson.
He said Cookhouse Police are investigating the drowning
and an inquest case has been opened.
