A swift response by the Cookhouse Highway Patrol Unit, acting on accurate intelligence, led to the arrest of a 29-year-old man found in possession of a significant consignment of Mandrax tablets destined for distribution in Kwanojoli (formerly Somerset East).

According to police spokesperson Captain Marius McCarthy on 8 July, police members received reliable information regarding a planned drug delivery from Gqeberha to Kwanojoli.

He said that the intelligence was immediately operationalised, and a vehicle checkpoint was conducted along the N10 national road.

“During the operation, a minibus taxi matching the description provided was intercepted and searched. Inside, police discovered a bag belonging to the suspect, containing 1 030 Mandrax tablets,” said McCarthy.

He said that the suspect was arrested on the spot for dealing in drugs.

McCarthy said that he is expected to appear before the Kwanojoli Magistrate’s Court soon.
