A suspected armed robbery was
foiled by a multidisciplinary police ensemble following a crime intelligence
driven operation in Komani on December 7.
Eastern Cape police
spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa, said the Komani K9 and Flying Squad units
arrested two suspects, aged 36 and 46, in Griffith Street where three firearms
and magazines with ammunition were recovered.
“According to the information
(at the police’s disposal) the two suspects were going to commit an armed
business robbery in Cathcart. Police followed the information they received and
spotted the VW Polo with two occupants and stopped it. Upon searching it, three unlicensed
firearms – a 9mm star, a 9mm parabellum and a 9mm replica with two
magazines and ammunition – were
recovered,” she said.
The firearms, ammunition and
the grey Polo were confiscated while the duo was immediately arrested.
The
Chris Hani District commissioner, Major General Rudolph Adolph, commended the
police for foiling the suspected robbery and ensuring that firearms are
confiscated and suspected perpetrators of crime are arrested.
The suspects are
expected to appear before the Komani Magistrate’s Court soon.
