Police arrest suspect with drugs from distribution point in Cradock

Swift follow up on information received by SAPS Cookhouse Highway patrol members, resulted in the arrest of one suspect and the confiscation of drugs on May 16.

According to police spokesperson, Priscilla Naidu, it is alleged that at about 21:15, the patrol members were patrolling in the Cookhouse area when they acted on information about a man fetching drugs from Cradock, a known drug distribution point.

She said the drugs were destined for Somerset East.

“Members patrolled the R63 and N10 searching for the suspect, and he was spotted walking from the N10 direction. Approximately 300 mandrax tablets and 30 satchets of tik were found in his possession,” said Naidu.

She said the 34-year-old suspect from Somerset East was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of drugs.

“The estimated value of the drugs is R69 000,” said Naidu.

She said the suspect is expected to appear in court soon.

Sarah Baartman District Commissioner, Maj Gen Zolani Xawuka applauded the persistent efforts of the members in ensuring that their streets are rid of drugs.
