THREE local players and an administrator are set to represent the Eastern Cape in the u/14 division at the Summer Cricket Games in Tshwane from December 13 to December 20.
Chris Hani West Schools Cricket chairperson, Mfundo Siyo, who represented the Eastern Cape junior management team in 2018, will lead the team; while Ruwan King from Louis Rex, Amahle Dinga from Maria Louw and Simankele Sidandala from Nkwanca will form part of the 13-member squad.
An elated Siyo says, “The three selected team members played their hearts out at the recent provincial u/14 junior trials held in East London – and represented their region with pride. Having three (local) players, as opposed to last year’s two players, in the team, is a great comfort.”
He contributes this success to hard work and dedication.
“Players from the Chris Hani West region played more than the allocation of 300 mini-cricket games given to them last season.
“The standard of regional cricket development is moving in the right direction. Next year, we want five or more players in the national team,” said Siyo. This will only be possible if we continue to work hard on and off the cricket field – especially at school level.”
The Eastern Cape u/14 team will be coached by Songezo Nkotheni from the OR Tambo region.
