NEWLY-PROMOTED Komani Ladies football club, Phoenix Birds Ladies FC, drew their first Sasol Women’s League Coastal Stream game, at home against NAV Galaxy Ladies FC of East London.
The game ended in a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Dumpy Adams Sports Complex in Komani on Saturday afternoon.
The home side was on fire in the game, despite playing with 10 players, due to playing cards issues for the novices.
Phoenix Birds’ striker, Naledi Rorwana, scored a brace, as the home side took a 2-0 lead into half time, before visitors came back late in the second half and snatch a point.
Phoenix Birds’ head coach, Ringo Klaas, has blamed fatigue for the draw, as they were playing with 10 players on the field without any replacements.
“We have to play our games with 10 players because of the situation we found ourselves in, and that has affected my players. Fatigue set in and it reflected on the pitch, that is why we have struggled in the second half because we are playing against 11 players,” said Klaas
The coach also said he will not blame his players and will work hard to ensure that he registers other players to finish in a respective position in the league.
“I will not blame my players at all, you can see with the effort they are putting on the field and it is up to me as a coach and the chairperson of the team to find ways in which I can improve the situation before May 22.
“I am quite sure that we are going to finish in a respectable position, this is just a temporary setback. We will turn the corner, and once we turn the corner, no-one is going to touch us,” concluded Klaas.
The Komani side will be playing away this coming weekend against Madibaz Ladies at Nelson Mandela University Second Avenue in Summerstrand, Gqeberha.
