THE president of the netball governing body in South Africa Netball South Africa (NSA), Cecilia Molokwane, said due to COVID-19 regulations they needed to prioritise the lives of all the people involved in netball and therefore have decided to postpone all on-court activities.
In a statement from the association NSA president, Cecilia Molokwane, said they needed to prioritise the lives of all the people involved in netball.
“The decision to postpone all our planned events for now is one that is in line with government regulations; we need to respect what our government recommends,” Molokwane said in a statement.
This break has also affected the semi-finals of the inaugural Twizza Chris Hani District Netball Club Championships. Before the announcement by the President, four teams had already booked their places in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Deberha Netball Club from Engcobo, Nkwenkwezi Netball Club from Komani, Super Strikers and Eagles, both from Ezibeleni, are four teams that were supposed to take on each other for a spot in the final of the tournament on the first weekend of July.
Eagles Head Coach, Wandisa Madolo, said the postponement of the tournament has delayed the progress of her team.
“We were really disappointed as a team when we received the news that the games had been postponed. Our team was in a great form during that time as we won all our group games, so the confidence of the players was very high,” says Madolo.
“At the same time we need to understand and respect the move by the association because we need to save lives so that we can come back and enjoy the game we love,” concluded Madolo.
The winners of the Chris Hani region will book a place in the Twizza Netball Club Championships.
