Police have requested truck drivers to use the
R65-Steynsburg road as alternative travelling route after a group of truck
drivers closed the N10-National Road outside Middelburg.
Police spokesperson, Capt. Larianne Jonker, said that the
group was only blocking trucks but allowing cars to pass through as some form
of a protest against foreign national truck drivers.
“Vehicles are allowed to pass through but all trucks
are being stopped. At this stage, it is alleged that the drivers are protesting
against foreign (national truck) drivers,” she said.
Jonker added: “Truck drivers are requested to please
use the R65-Steynsburg road as (an) alternative travelling route.”
