The Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula and the Acting Chris Hani District
Commisioner, Brigadier Mabel Magqashela arrived at the Middelburg Police
Station today and will address truck drivers who were protesting on the N10
yesterday, 24 October.
According to police spokesperson Captain Lariane Jonker, a
group of truck drivers were preventing trucks from passing through the N10
National Road outside Middelburg yesterday.
“Vehicles are allowed to pass through but all trucks are
being stopped. At this stage, it is alleged that the drivers are protesting
against foreign drivers,” said Jonker.
Jonker said to resolve the issue at hand, Mbalula and Magqashela arrived at Middelburg Police Station and will
address a representation of the truck drivers.
“Truck drivers are requested to please use the
R65 Steynsburg road as alternative travelling route, ” said Jonker.
