TALENTED artist Joshua Miles’s reduction linocuts and woodcuts are included in the “Vanishing Karoo” exhibition that opens on Friday, March 15 at the Imibala Gallery.

As a special treat to artists and art lovers, Miles will be doing a demonstration to show the whole process of reduction block printmaking on Saturday, March 9 at the gallery.

Miles received the Michaelis Prize for best student in his fourth year of studies at the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town.

On completion of his studies, he moved to Hermanus where he met his Scottish wife, Angela. They lived in Scotland for two years during which Miles did more woodcuts than weeks he spent there. He also spent three years living in London, painting and spending many hours in galleries and museums.

Although Miles spent many years painting with oils on canvas, his passion has always been with the reduction block woodcuts.

A full description with images is available on Miles’s website www.joshuamiles.co.za for those who might want a taste of what is involved.

The free demonstration of reduction block printmaking will start at 09:00 and artists and interested persons are invited to attend. Contact Fawa at 082 458 6922 or e-mail arts@imibala.com.
