Maria Louw High School in Komani is the Soccer Champion of the newly introduced Phulutho Activities High Schools Mini Tournament.

They beat Kwa-Komani Comprehensive School 2-0 in the final at the Dumpy Adams Sports Complex in Komani on March 24.

The tournament was launched earlier this month by Phulutho Activities and it is sponsored by PH Sports.

The tournament is used as a pre-season activity for 14 high schools in April.

Maria Louw High School’s soccer captain, Lukhona Xhoseni, said the win will boost their confidence going to the schools league and the KAY Motsepe Schools Cup.

“As the captain of the team, I am super excited for my boys because we have been working very hard with our coach and the support we received from our principal Sandile Mata is massive. This win boosts our confidence going into the school’s league in April and the bigger one KAY Motsepe Schools Cup,” said Xhoseni.

Phulutho Activities director, Phumelela Hlati, said the pre-season tournament was a success and it also gave the schools time to notice what to work on going in the league.

“We are happy with the way things turned out and the fact that schools were excited with this initiative. This tournament was a way of preparing the schools for the upcoming schools league next month. This year the schools league will also be contested by primary schools as we welcome nine primary schools,” said Hlati.

Nine primary schools also participated in the Phulutho Activities Schools Mini Tournament. Schools were competing in soccer, netball and rugby.
