KOMANI’S Maria Louw High School held their annual school sports awards at the school’s hall in Komani on Tuesday last week.

These prestigious awards were to recognise outstanding achievements by the school’s learners in a range of sports.

The school ended their season on a high note this year, as their soccer first team won R100 000 in the provincial u/19 Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup and represented the Eastern Cape in the national finals in Bloemfontein last month.

In other achievements for the school, the rowing team went on to compete in the South African Rowing National Games, while Ronan Bramwill gained Border Rugby colours.

Maria Louw director of sport, Tembela Fani, said, “It is satisfying to see great improvement in our school in all sporting areas. Our results have shown that our coaches and our students are doing the right things. I am proud of all the hard work during this year’s sporting season.

“This reflects the fantastic commitment to sport that our pupils, parents and staff show in their sporting activities. It is recognition of our commitment, engagement and delivery of competitive school sport and physical activity.”

The school also has two players who were selected as part of the u/14 Eastern Cape Cricket team that will take part in the National Summer Cricket Games in Johannesburg in December.

“I want to salute our learners and say to them that the vigour and strength they possess in displaying their sporting skills and abilities, as well as their talent, is much appreciated by the school,” concluded Fani.
