Police in Somerset East have arrested one suspect and are
investigating the murder of Piet Oliphant (54).
Police responded to an
anonymous caller who phoned them and directed them to a scene of a stabbing at
a residence in Jonas Street on Friday, May 21 at about 22:00.
According to police spokesperson Captain Bradley Rawlinson,
after EMS Somerset East stabilised and transported the victim to Andries Vosloo
Hospital for medical attention, the victim succumbed to a chest stab wound.
“A murder case was opened and will be investigated by
Somerset East detectives,” said Rawlinson.
He said a 35-year-old suspect was arrested on Saturday, May
22 at 02:35.
“The suspect is due to appear before the Somerset East
Regional Court soon,” said Rawlinson.
