A 20-year-old man was arrested by the Indwe police, outside Komani, for allegedly raping an 81-year-old woman.

Police spokesperson captain Namhla Mdleleni said the young man was arrested in the early hours on Sunday morning, 14 November.

“It is alleged that the 81-year-old woman was sleeping alone when she heard someone entering her room. The suspect overpowered the victim and raped her. The elderly woman managed to shout for assistance and family members immediately came to her aid,” she said.

Mdleleni said police were immediately called and the suspect was arrested.

Mdleleni added that the suspect appeared before the Indwe Magistrate’s Court on Monday, November 14, however, she was not available to provide information on the court appearance outcomes.
