TSOMO’s golden boy of long-distance running, 2022 Buffs Marathon 42,2km champion Mcoseleli Luyaba, has been invited to join the elite men’s field at this year’s Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon.

The men’s field is seen as one of the most competitive ever to compete in the Two Oceans Marathon.

“I am so thrilled about this opportunity. The organizers of the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon contacted me after my Buffs Marathon 42,2km win last month. They invited me to run this year’s Two Oceans Marathon and I accepted their invitation after discussing it with my coach,” said excited Luyaba.

The 40-year-old Luyaba, who runs in the colours of Nedbank Running Club East London (NRCEL), was invited to the marathon after doing well in the 48th season of Buffs Marathon, crossing the line in a time of 2:25:25.184 in East London.

“When I decided to take part in the Buffs Marathon, I wanted to check my level of fitness with an eye on the Two Oceans and the Comrades Marathon. I am ready for Two Oceans, and I will only decide after Two Oceans on the Comrades Marathon, and I am hoping everything will go according to our plans,” said Luyaba.

The Buffs Marathon 42,2km is regarded as one of the Eastern Cape’s most prestigious events and is an official Comrades and Two Oceans Ultra Marathon qualifier.

After winning the Buffs Marathon, Luyaba also caught an eye of well-known Comrades Marathon icon, Nick Bester, who invited him to take part in the Nedbank Runified Breaking Barriers 50km race, which took place in Gqeberha, Nelson Mandela Bay on March 6. Luyaba finished second in his age category and 20th overall.

Luyaba also took part in the 2022 Human Rights Road Race in Ngqeleni, last week and came in sixth overall, while winning the veteran’s age category.
