Passengers travelling
in a bus on the R61 between Tarkastad and Komani were fortunate to escape
unharmed when the bus caught fire on Monday, August 8.
According
to spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Unathi Binqose, the incident occurred on Monday.
He said the
bus had a mechanical problem and the driver managed to pull off on the side of
the road.
“The passengers
were able to jump out and off load their luggage. Not long after this the fire
started from the back of the bus where the engine is and quickly engulfed the
bus,” said Binqose.
“Thankfully
there were no fatalities or injuries.”
