A TOTAL of 31 lifters from all over the Eastern Cape competed in the powerlifting and bench press championships that were held at Cape Recife near Port Elizabeth.

Competitors from as far afield as Cradock and from schools including Cape Recife, Brandwag, Despatch and DF Malherbe competed in the Eastern Cape Classic competition earlier this month.

Among the seven lifters who competed in the disabled division were the two Cradock lifters, Meliswa Ngento, who competed in the 88kg weight division and scored 110 points to secure him second place, and Xolani Ndatya, scoring 90 points in the 72kg weight division.

The championship was held to qualify for the SA Classic Powerlifting championships to be held in Potchefstroom on December 6, this year, as well as the SA Disabled Championships to be held in Port Elizabeth in March next year.
