KOMANI-BORN rugby coach, Nwabisa Ngxatu, has immortalised her name in the history books after guiding a relatively ‘considered’ inexperienced Border Rugby Women’s Team to victory in the Women’s Premier Division in Cape Town.
The Border Women’s Rugby team lifted the sought-after trophy for the first time since 2016 after beating favourites and defending Champions DHL Western Province Women Side 24-15 in Newlands.
Ngxatu, a former player herself, said she hoped the Border Women’s Rugby team win has inspired hope in the Eastern Cape Province after claiming the most valuable prize in local women’s rugby for the first time since 2016.
“We really needed this, because the victory means a lot more than just bringing a trophy back in the Eastern Cape. Our province is faced with a lot of challenges especially in women’s development, but this is what is going to bring us together,” said Ngxatu
“This is one thing that is going to uplift the spirit of the Eastern Cape rugby and believing that we can still be an important part of rugby in South Africa.”
Border Captain and No 8, Lusanda Dumke, who showed her international class with a massive performance, said in a short space of time they had learnt a lot from Ngxatu.
“Life under Coach Nwai has been good and we learnt a lot from her in a short space of time. It is very nice that we have a lady who has been in the same situation and who played in the highest level of the game. It is so easy for her to work with us because she understands us since she was a player herself,” said Dumke.
