FOLLOWING a short and demanding season of the Local Football Association League due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The SAFA Enoch Mgijima Local Football Association has confirmed the date of this season’s edition of the LFA Play-Offs.
Komani, a town that is the hub of Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality will host the tournament on Saturday, 31 July, with Army Base Sports Grounds front-runners to welcome nine zonal champions.
With COVID-19 restrictions, the SAFA Enoch Mgijima LFA Executive Committee, led by the Chairman Naledi Dlwengu, is expected to choose the Army Base Sports Ground over Dumpy Adams Sports Complex because of security reasons.
“We are still in discussions with the authorities because we have to obey the rules of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Army Base Grounds are safer than Dumpy Adams as you can see the situation there has become bad and not safe.”
“In the meeting we held we also agreed to rotate the playoffs so that each and every zone gets a chance to host because that will also encourage people to take part in the game of football in our region.”
In the meeting they also conducted a draw that will see nine teams split into three groups of three teams in each group. Group A will see Sports Club Vergenoeg from Ilinge Township taking on 12 Aces FC of Molteno and King Vultures FC from Dongwe Location. There is a new team in Group B, Mceula United FC under McBride Zone, which will be playing for the first time in the Enoch Mgijima LFA Playoffs and will be contesting with Fast Eleven FC of Sterkstroom and Golden Chiefs FC of Ntabethemba in the group. Group C will see one of the biggest teams in the region Madrid FC of Ezibeleni taking on Phoenix Birds FC of Komani and other newcomers, Saints FC from Machibini Zone.
