Residents of Ezibeleni and businesses in the Queendustria area in Komani will experience a planned four-day water supply interruption from today, September 10 to September 13 due to road construction works.
Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM) member of the mayoral committee responsible for technical services, Bongeka Nobuntu, said the reason for the outage was to allow the contractor, Makali Plant and Construction, to finish the Fikile Gwadana Road.
“The road works, which involve tampering with the water infrastructure, will require the lowering of the main water pipeline that supplies the Queendustria and Ezibeleni areas, necessitating a water supply interruption. The road construction company will cut off the existing pipe as part of the project, with testing and commissioning of the pipe bypass scheduled for Friday,” Nobuntu said.
During this period, she said, CHDM would ensure continued water supply to minimise the impact of the interruption on consumers.
“A plan to provide an alternative water supply to all the affected areas is already in place, with a total of eight water carts, with capacities ranging from 10 000 to 16 000 liters, to be deployed as an intervention over the period. The municipality has engaged relevant stakeholders, including ward councillors, ward committees, and the business fraternity, for seamless distribution during the period, with clear indications of specific points of distribution based on population density and need,” Nobuntu said.
Schools, government sector departments, and businesses will also be catered for.
“Water supply will be restored as soon as the contractor has completed the works and reservoir levels have increased. The district municipality would like to apologise for the inconvenience this may cause. Customers can contact the CHDM customer careline at 0800 100 100 for any customer-related inquiries and complaints regarding water and sanitation,” she said.
