The Chris Hani District Municipality
has advised Komani residents to boil tap water to render it safe to drink.

“We
are experiencing challenges
in our water treatment plant that is now affecting water quality,” said
Municipal Manager Gcobani Mashiyi in a statement on Friday.

“The boil water
alert was issued as a precautionary measure and updates will be shared with the
community.”

This follows
shortly after two other Eastern Cape Metro’s, Buffalo City and Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, also recently declared their water quality compromised.

According to
CHDM management technicians are currently attending to the water quality
issue. While further tests are being conducted, the water boil alert remains
effective until further notice.

CHDM
customers can call 0800 100 100 for more information.
