KOMANI designers are being given the chance to display their work in KwaZulu-Natal soon, thanks to an initiative spearheaded by the Komani Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC), in conjunction with the BAT Centre in Durban.
The initiative will afford 10 local designers the chance to exhibit and sell their home-grown designs in Durban.
The only prerequisite: the shoes and garments must encourage acculturation, and thus bring about positive economic spin-offs.
This follows after a recent successful joint fashion exhibition – themed Zulu meets Xhosa.
To assist local designers, the Bat Centre donated sewing machines and musical instruments.
Bulelwa Malange from the BAT Centre said, “The partnership will furthermore promote social cohesion between different cultures.”
