SEVEN Stars FC Chairman, Jan Draghoender, has confirmed that Yongama Willie Kepkey will remain their head coach in the Provincial ABC Motsepe League this coming season.
After helping the Komani side win promotion to the ABC Motsepe League, Kepkey has now been given the responsibility of guiding the club in the Provincial top league.
Seven Stars were promoted to the ABC Motsepe League late last month after spending only a few seasons in the Chris Hani SAB Regional League.
The Komani-based side topped Group A after winning two games while drawing one at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha. In that tournament Stars striker, Shaydon Rowland, became top goal scorer by seven goals in three games.
According to Draghoender, the club will also allow Kepkey to keep the rest of his technical team. Kepkey is assisted by Benjamin Geduld while Mlandeli Bokweni will continue with his duties as the club’s Technical Director.
“Yongama will remain as our Head Coach in the ABC Motsepe League. He has the culture of Seven Stars and that is the culture that we want to go forward with as a team,” Draghoender told Komani-Karoo Express.
“We believe that they are going to take us forward in our new season of the Provincial ABC Motsepe League.”
Draghoender has assured the Seven Stars FC supporters that the club will stay in the ABC Motsepe League and fight for promotion to the GladAfrica Championship.
“This team will always be grateful to the support they get from the community of Komani. We are going to do things properly and make this team competitive for a long time.”
The challenging issue for newly promoted side is the situation of their home ground, Dumpy Adams Sports Complex, which does not meet the requirements of hosting SAFA ABC Motsepe League games, especially during this pandemic.
“We cannot afford to play our games outside Komani as that will cost the team deeply financially. We really need assistance from businesses to donate anything that will help us fix the Dumpy Adams fence so that we can play our home game in Komani,” concluded Draghoender.
The ABC Motsepe League new boys have begun their preparations for the new season and they played a friendly game with Phoenix Birds FC on Sunday.
