KAREL Theron Primary School in Middelburg recently held its annual sports awards gala function, where all their young sport stars were recognised for their achievements throughout 2019.

Congratulations to Divan Lausberg and Marilet Blom, who were announced as Karel Theron’s sportsman and sportswoman of 2019.

Divan was also named as best boys’ athlete, while Marilet won the trophy for the best girls’ athlete, netball player of the year, as well as best girls’ tennis player for 2019.

Other excellent achievements that were recognised at the event were Josh Bishop as best boys’ tennis player, Emmanuel Konkolongo as most promising chess player and Ababalwe Matutu as rugby player of the year.

Principal at Karel Theron Primary, Johan Allers, congratulated each and every learner who received a certificate, medal and trophy at the event.

“If it weren’t for your love for sport and hard work throughout the year, this evening wouldn’t have been possible,” said Allers.

“Thank you to all the coaches who helped our learners achieve their dreams and become better sportsmen and sportswomen. Thank you for your time and effort every week on the sport field.”

He also thanked parents for their support and motivation and commended their positive attitude towards the school, sport, coaches and learners.
